Conference 2020 brief

The Kenya Vision 2030 recognizes the key role played by education, training and research in wealth creation and building human capital required for the transition to a knowledge-based economy. The Vision proposes to intensify the application of research and innovation to raise productivity and efficiency levels across the economic, social and political pillars of national development agenda. The African Union’s Agenda 2063 (implemented through ST&I Strategy for Africa – STISA 2024) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) also focus on the use research and innovation as tools for ensuring socio-economic transformation of the member countries. The Government of Kenya has further support this by setting priorities in four critical pillars to achieve its sustainable developmental agenda. These are food security, affordable housing, affordable healthcare and manufacturing for job creation.
Maseno University is echoing this approach to development through its Mission to discover, harness, apply, disseminate and preserve knowledge for good of humanity. It is against this background that
Maseno University is hosting the Conference on research, science, technology and innovation 2020. It is envisaged that the conference will bring together scientific ideas and innovations through presentations and exhibitions by students, young scientists, researchers, key experts, technocrats, policy makers, industry leaders and international organizations. The event is also aimed at strengthening the culture of research and science among students, scientists and industry across the country and beyond. Research outputs will be showcased through presentations, discussions and exhibitions under identified sub-themes. The conference is also expected to enhance networking between scholars, scientific delegates and young scientists and also strengthen linkages between the private sector, academia and the government.
